Johns of Instow and Appledore have shops located near our self-catering holiday centre, and was chosen as the winner by some of the most prominent food experts across the UK. The award programme was set up to acknowledge the best standards in speciality retail, whilst also celebrating high levels of service, and involvement in the local community.
The business was referred to as a “real jewel” for those who are visiting North Devon by food journalist Nigel Barden when he presented the award to Johns earlier this week.
Opening as a family business in the 1940’s, Johns of Instow and Appledore is run today by the fourth generation of the Johns family, and the company now has two shops, one in Instow and the other in Appledore. Both of the shops include a full delicatessen, wine shop and a butcher.
They then extended the business further in 2012 by opening a café in the Appledore branch of the store, which takes advantage of the fantastic local produce available in North Devon.
Johns is a perfect place to visit whilst staying in one of our self-catering properties, with their outstanding range of local produce enough to appeal to everyone.
