A chocolate Labrador named Sage has pretty much landed everyone’s dream job, where she will be acting as a holiday reviewer, touring the UK with a years’ worth of free trips.
Alyson had entered Sage in the competition on a whim, not expecting that she might actually win, and was stunned when she received the email saying that Sage had finished as top dog!
What was the competition?
With holidaymakers bringing their dogs with them more frequently on holiday, it was decided that instead of a person reviewing the comfort of pet friendly accommodation, they would leave it up to the dog! There were a number of criteria the successful applicant had to have, which are as follows:
- House Trained
This one is a given! No chewing the sofa or using the indoors as a toilet!
- Be sociable
They had to get on with other dogs, as well as being friendly with children.
- Be active
There’s a lot of exploring to be done, so wanting to discover new places means requiring a lot of energy!
- Be a good traveller
It is important that the dog travels well, and did not get distressed by the journeys required to visit places on holiday.
Sage fulfilled all of this criteria perfectly, thanks to her impressive CV boasting her extensive charity work with owner Alyson, with the pair raising £35,000 for a number of charities. Their fundraising efforts even gifted them the opportunity to carry the Olympic Torch back in 2012. Facing stiff competition of over a thousand entrants, Sage trumped them all to land the job as Canine Critic.
What is next for the pair?
Alyson and Sage will start their tour in July, with our very own Devon being their first stop! Alyson has stated that this opportunity is almost like a retirement reward for 12-year-old Sage, and she knows that she will take the position very seriously.
