It has been confirmed that Saturday 7th March was the warmest day of the year so far, with temperatures reaching 16C in some parts of the Westcountry.
These temperatures were higher than favourite holiday destinations such as Rome, Athens and Barcelona, with Athens only reaching 11C at the weekend.
The arrival of this beautiful spring weather was a welcomed surprise, with many people flocking to the coast to enjoy the weather while it lasted. A tropical Atlantic air mass moving in on the South West was to thank for the beautiful weather.
This unprecedented rise in temperature has resulted in a number of bookmakers cutting odds on March being the hottest on record.
It has also been predicted that 2015 could well be the hottest year on record, with a “Mediterranean” style summer expected later this year.
After 2014 was recorded as the warmest on record, 2015 is looking set to beat that record, weather experts have predicted.
